Tag Archives: rooftop bars

Last month I spent an evening at a tiny, unmarked terrace in the heart of Soho, and the view of the city skyline at 11 p.m. made me feel like I’d stumbled onto a secret. The bar was tucked between a vintage record shop and a florist, and the only sign was a faint, handwritten chalkboard that read “Open 9 p.m.” No grand opening announcement, no social‑media hype—just a quiet, curated space that rewarded the curious. If you’re looking for an evening that feels both exclusive and unforgettable, London’s hidden rooftop bars are the place to be.

How to Find the Best Discreet Spots

Unlike the well‑known rooftops on the Southbank, these gems don’t rely on flashy branding. Instead, they thrive on word‑of‑mouth and a few insider tips. Here’s a quick checklist to help you locate them:

• Check local event listings. Sites like Londonist and Resident Advisor often feature pop‑up rooftop events before they go mainstream.
• Ask the locals. A quick question to a bartender at a nearby pub—“Any good spots up there?”—usually yields a name and a reservation tip.
• Use the map trick. Search “London rooftop bars” in Google Maps, then zoom in and look for points marked “Restaurant” with a small roof icon; many hidden venues hide under generic tags.

Once you’ve identified a candidate, call ahead. Many of these places accept reservations only via phone, and they often close early—most shut by 2 a.m., so plan your night accordingly.

Top Three Secret Rooftops to Try Tonight

Below are three venues that have earned rave reviews for their atmosphere, drinks, and, most importantly, their ability to keep the crowd at a respectful distance.

1. The Sky Garden at 10 Baker Street

Hidden behind a nondescript office building, this terrace offers a 360‑degree view of the city’s skyline. The bar menu focuses on craft gin cocktails, with a signature “Baker Street Breeze” that blends elderflower, cucumber, and a splash of dry gin. The seating is a mix of high‑back stools and a small communal table that seats six, creating an intimate vibe even when the city lights flicker below.

2. The Loft on Old Street

Accessible through a narrow staircase in a warehouse‑turned‑studio, the Loft is a speakeasy‑style rooftop that feels like a secret garden. Their cocktail list leans toward smoky, mezcal‑based drinks, and the bartenders are known for their quick, precise service. The space is small—about 30 seats—so you’ll likely need to book at least two hours in advance if you want to secure a table.

3. The View at 12 Southwark

Located on the roof of a historic bank building, this venue blends Victorian architecture with modern design. The highlight is a live jazz trio that performs every Thursday and Friday night. Drinks are served in crystal glasses, and the bar offers a small selection of artisanal cheeses to pair with your cocktail. The bar’s policy is to limit the number of guests to 50 per night, which keeps the atmosphere relaxed and the service prompt.

From Rooftops to Online Entertainment: A Quick Detour

Just as you might enjoy a night of rooftop cocktails, you can also explore a different kind of thrill—online gaming. Why These Bars Matter to Londoners

London’s skyline is constantly changing, yet these hidden rooftops offer a slice of continuity—a place where the city’s history and modernity mingle over a glass of well‑crafted drink. They’re not just about the view; they’re about the experience: the quiet buzz of conversation, the clink of glasses, and the sense that you’re part of an exclusive circle. For those who crave a night that feels both intimate and elevated, these rooftops are worth the hunt.

Final Thoughts

Next time you’re planning a night out, ditch the obvious tourist spots and venture into one of London’s concealed rooftops. Bring a friend, reserve early, and let the city lights do the talking. The experience will linger long after the last drink is poured, and you’ll have a new favorite spot to brag about at your next gathering.
